Jessica Alba Gets Hair Extensions

Back in February, Jessica was seen sporting a super cute short shaggy bob at the Valentine’s Day premiere. Yesterday, Jessica Alba showed off her newly lengthened locks at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her latest film The Killer Inside Me.
I love her with long hair, but I think the extensions need to be layered. Layering hair extensions makes them look more natural and blend well with your own natural hair. Even if they are applied the right way, they won't look as natural if they have a blunt cut. I do like the dark brunette shade on her though. What do you guys think?

Hair Closure FAQ's

How are hair closures applied?
Closures are attached to the horseshoe section of your head from just behind your hairline to the top center of the head. Closures can be applied many ways.
  • The most popular method used to attach a closure is by sewing it into your hair. This is done by attaching it to cornrow braids along the perimeter.
  • You can also bond the closure onto your head, by using hair tape or hair glue.
  • Since our closures are lace frontal closures you can also sew the back of the closure into your head and glue the front lace base part using hair tape or hair glue.
  • You can also add clips to the closure and clip it on.
How can I style the closure?
Our closures are freestyle closures; which, allows for styling freedom. You can style your hair any way you choose. This includes a part down the middle, a side part, and no part with all your hair pulled back. The hair closures are made with 100% remy human and can be curled, flat ironed etc to achieve any hair style you want.

How long does the closure last?
Our hair closures last for several installs. With proper care, it can last up to a year or longer.

How many packs of hair will I need with a closure?
How much hair you will need with a closure depends on a couple of things: (1) the hair length and (2) the fullness you desire:

10"-12"= 1-1.5 packs
14"-16"= 1.5-2 packs
18"-22"=2-2.5 packs
22"-26"= 2.5-3 packs

What is the difference between the swiss lace and thin skin closure?
The difference between swiss lace and thin skin closure is that the swiss lace closure is made with a transparent nylon lace material that has many tines holes; which allows for ventilation. The thin skin closure is made of a non-transparent polyurethane material that resembles a scalp and gives the appearance that hair is growing from the scalp. Thin skin closure can also accommodate any kind of attachment whether it is bonding with glue or tape, or sewing. They are both very durable and natural looking.

Common Hair Myths

There are several myths about hair that have been passed on from generation to generation. Here are 8 of the most common hair myths:
Myth #1: Cutting Hair Makes It Grow Faster and/or Thicker
False. Shorter hair often looks and feels thicker but cutting your hair won’t alter its normal biologically determined growth rate or overall texture. Thin, limp or fine hair will not ever grow thicker in response to a haircut. Plump up your hair by using volume enhancing hair care products, experimenting with a hair fattening blunt cut or getting a texturizing perm or color treatment.
Myth #2:Split ends can be repaired.
Sorry this isn't true either. Split ends cannot be repaired and should be cut off immediately or they will split higher and do even more damage. Holding onto split ends will only further damage your hair.
Myth #3: Hair Will Always Remain The Same Texture
False. Although you may be born with straight, curly or wavy locks, there are many circumstances under which your hair’s ultimate texture can be permanently altered. Pregnancy, medication, chemotherapy, age and other variables can cause your texture to be temporarily or permanently altered.
Myth #4: Washing Hair Every Day Dries It Out
Another hair myth. The right shampoo for your hair type and texture will actually add moisture, body and beauty
Myth #5: Pluck one gray hair and two will grow back.
False.  This is a tale that seems to have been passed on from generation to generation. In my educated opinion it is not true. A hair can be pulled out from the root with no effect to the root itself except at times to weaken it. Pulling out a hair will not cause the root to split and produce more than one hair. I think the myth is perpetuated because often when you find a gray hair, you have come to that age when your body has begun the graying process and in it’s natural course more and
Myth #6: Baldness is inherited from the mothers side of the family.
More Hair Voodoo. Male and female pattern hair loss can be inherited from either side of the family and may or may not skip many generations. Male pattern hair loss usually begins at age 18 to 20 and female patter hair loss between ages 45 and 55.
Myth #7: Hair Can Become Immune to Shampoo
False. Shampoo will always do its job: clean. So why does it seem like your favorite bottle suddenly stops working? "Shampoo contains ingredients that condition and provide styling benefits, but it can also leave a residue that builds up," says Desai. If you start to notice dullness, use a clarifying shampoo (try Nexxus Aloe Rid Gentle clarifying shampoo, $11; at drugstores) once or twice a month to remove accumulated product -- any more often and you could strip hair of its healthy natural oils.
Myth #8: Hair can be trained.
This is another myth that has been around for a long time. Hair is untrainable, much like your kid brother. There is no amount of combing that will cause curly hair to become straight. When it is shampooed, it will go right back to its normal habits. The same thing goes for trying to train hair into a side or center part. If it doesn’t go that way easily or naturally, there is no amount of persuasion that will cause it to go of its own accord.

Interesting & Fun Hair Facts

At http://www.sultryhairextensions.com/ my favorite online hobby lately has been visiting random facts and useless knowledge websites. I can't say I will ever use this information, unless I am ever a contestant on a game show. I know more useless information than any person should ever know. That being said, I've decided to dedicate this article about 15 of the most interesting and fun facts about hair. Enjoy!
  • Split ends cannot be repaired and should be cut off immediately or they will continue to split higher and do more damage.
  • Next to bone marrow, hair is the fastest growing tissue in the human body.
  • Hair is actually dead material when it leaves its root, otherwise it would hurt when you cut your hair with scissors.
  • The reason why hair turns gray as we age is because the pigment cells in the hair follicle start to die, which is responsible for producing "melanin" which gives the hair colour.
  • The big toe is the foot reflexology pressure point for the head.
  • Hair grows approximately 1/2 an inch per month.
  • Hair growth occurs fastest between the ages of 15 and 30.
  • The average life span of a strand of hair is between 4 and 7 years.
  • Hair is shed on a daily basis. It is normal to shed between 75-150 hairs per day.
  • Hair grows faster in warm and sunny weather.
  • Your hair can reveal a lot about you: what you eat, if you do drugs, what you do to your hair, your ethnicity (different races have different hair structure) and so on. So, anyone with a strand of hair from your scalp can, in theory, make a profile of your lifestyle.
  • Hair is made from the same substance as fingernails: keratin.
  • The first hair dryer was a vacuum cleaner that was adapted for drying hair.
  • Scientists have been found that people with a high IQ have more Zinc and Copper in their hair.
  • The numbers of hairs on the head vary with the hair's natural color.
  1. Redheads have about 90,000.
  2. Black, 108,000.
  3. Brown, 140,000
  4. Blondes have about 140,000, maybe that's why they have more fun!?!

Clip-on Hair Extensions FAQ's

There are many different ways in which hair extensions can be applied. Some of the popular ways involve sewing, bonding or gluing them to your natural hair; however if you are looking for a more temporary length or volume then clip in hair extensions is a popular alternative. Clip in hair extensions provide you with a low maintenance, no commitment and quick solution to get longer hair while you are waiting for your natural hair to grow. They less expensive than going to a salon to have extensions applied via other methods of application. Below are some commonly asked questions customers ask regarding clip in hair extensions.

Are the clips comfortable?
The top of the line polymer coated clips provides a superior gripping power and extra comfortable fit. They hold strong for all day wear.
Will my hair extensions look natural?
The discreet clip fastenings are hidden by your own hair. No one will be able to tell you are wearing our clip in hair extensions unless you choose to share your secret with them.
Will the clip in hair extensions slip out?
No, they will not fall out of your hair. Even when pulled gently, they will not slip completely out, but may slip down just a bit, but with one hand, you can reach under your hair and open and re-snap the clip.
Are the hair extensions made of human hair?
Yes, our clip in hair extensions are made only with 100% remy human hair.
Will they damage my hair?
Clip-in extensions will not damage your hair or scalp. Due to weight of extensions it is advisable that your own hair is at least 4 inches long.
Can I keep re-using them?
Yes, you can re-use them as much as you want as long as you take care of them. They often last a lot longer than other hair extensions as they are easier to care for than ones which are glued or bonded to your hair. With proper care the clip n hair extensions should last over a year or longer.
Can I keep them in over night?
You can, but it is recommend that you take them out at night.
Can you see the clips?
No, the clips are applied onto your hair, underneath the extensions.
Can I cut them?
You are able to cut and style them into any style that you want to suit your natural hair and to blend them in better; however if you are planning to cut them it is a good idea to ask your hair dresser to do it for you as cutting them requires the same amount of skill that is needed to cut your natural hair.
Will my Scalp be able to breath?
Like hair extensions that are glued or bonded to your hair, your clip in ones will be fitted close to your hairs roots/scalp. They are attached in a way so that they do not block your roots or scalp so that you can feel and touch your scalp as normal.
Can I color or highlight the clip-on hair extensions?
Since our hair extensions are 100% human hair you can color them; however, it is advisable to order them in the color that matches your natural color.
How many packs will I need to cover my whole head?
You will only need one pack of clip-on hair extensions for a full head installation.  Each pack contains 5 (triple wefted) pieces. The full set includes:

(1) 8" Section- 3 clips
(1) 7" Section- 3 clips
(1) 6" Section- 3 clips
(2) 3" Section- 2 clips

According to a yahoo article published last week; in which, more than 1,000 women were interviewed for the survey, only 60% of women are happy with their hair. That leaves another 40% of women that color, relax, perm, flat iron their hair to get the look they want.

  • Have short hair and want to go long?
  • Want to add highlights or color to your hair?
  • Would you like more volume and thickness?
  • Has your hair started thinning out due to age or a medical condition?

Get Rid of Hair Extension Static

Static can be very strong in winter. Static electric shock happens more often because of the low humidity levels in our homes, heated by fireplaces and forced hot air. Static electricity can be a nuisance - clothes cling together and awful fly-away hair. What do to? Check out the tips below.
  • Get yourself a humidifier- By using a humidifier, you get the air in your home back to normal humidity levels, and you will find that with increased humidity, the static will be reduced. For those of you with curly hair, your curls will get stronger with higher humidity.
  • Dryer Softener Sheet- Another solution is to rub a dryer softener sheet over the brush, and even on your hair before brushing. It does wonders and cuts down of tangles!
  • Wet Hair- Also wetting your hair and combing it will decrease hair static.
  • Hair Spray- Using hair spray can decrease the electrical charge in your hair.
  • Investigate Your Hair Products- If you still have trouble with static, investigate on your hair care products. Some shampoos wash your hair so squeak clean, that all natural oils disappear - they protect your hair shaft, and prevent static, too. If you do not wish to change your products, use jojoba oil after washing to add the natural amount of oil to your hair.
  • Look at your wardrobe- If you can't seem to get rid of static, have a look at your wardrobe. Chemical fibers are apt to cause static - most important are viscose and polyester. Switching to natural (and electrically neutral) fibers like cotton, silk or wool also helps a lot in getting rid of static.

How to Remove Hair Extensions

Removal of hair extensions can be done by a professional or you can remove them yourself. Whether the extensions are pre bonded, micro rings, or fusion bonded hair extensions, it is important to keep you hair in great condition.
Clip-in Hair Extensions
Removing clip-ins is incredibly easy. Just as you simply clip them into your hair when you want them, when you have had enough you just open open the clip and away you go.
Seamless Hair Extensions
Seamless hair extensions can be removed by applying an adhesive remover or solvent and by gently massaging the adhesive to loosen the bond and remove. A great tip when removing seamless hair is to use a blow dryer on low heat after you have applied the solvent. This will help loosen those hard to remove bonds.
Bonded Hair Extensions
Bonded hair extensions can be removed by applying an adhesive remover or solvent and by gently massaging the adhesive to loosen the bond and remove. A great tip when removing seamless hair is to use a blow dryer on low heat after you have applied the solvent. This will help loosen those hard to remove bonds.
Sew-in Hair Extensions (Weaves)
It would help if you had someone to help you. We recommend getting a sew-in weave removed by an experiences hairstylist. That way you don't run the risk of cutting your own hair. Its always good to have another pair of eyes when using scissors and working with your hair. Pull your weave up into a ponytail at the top of your hair. Take last track in the back and release from pony tail. This is the back of your hair some people can just feel the different between thread and their own hair. Place a mirror behind you so you can see the track cut one piece of the thread. Cut the thread, not the track. Start from where you cut the thread and lift remaining thread with your fingers. Repeat with rest of weave. You may have to make extra cuts but if you find where the knot is which is usually at either end and cut there then you can easily remove the weave.  It is best to use a razor or slim hair cutting scissors
Fusion Bonding Hair Extensions
Removal of any extensions that use a bonding agent must be done at a salon, but both fusion bonding and pre bonded extensions are removed in exactly the same way. A bond remover containing acetate will be applied to soften up the bond. After a bond has been briefly soaked, it is then broken up with a pair of pliers. If done correctly, the whole extension will slide down the
Micro Rings Hair Extensions
Again, it is important to get Micro Rings removed by an experiences hairstylist as trying to pull them out yourself can severely damage and break the hair. Proper removal is very quick, easy, and simply involves clamping the rings with a pair of pliers to squeeze them open. They are then just slid off of the hair, leaving it in perfectly good condition.natural hair.
Our hair naturally sheds overtime, but with extensions in, it sometimes can not fall from the head. The result is it looks like you are losing lots of hair when they are removed, but don't be alarmed, it's perfectly natural. Once all your extensions are removed, it is wise to follow up with a good shampoo and a deep condition. At Sultry Hair Extensions, we sell hair extension removers and solvents for every hair extension type.

Would You Pay $46,000 for Hair Extensions?

We have all been guilty of splurging on things but is this too much? Brandi Irwin spends over $40,000 for her hair extensions per year. It is excessive? Maybe. But it seems she can afford it. For me the only real shocker is that I’ve never heard of her before. If someone told me that Beyonce spends $46,000 on her lace fronts and weaves.

How much would you pay to have the hair you’ve always wanted? For some the answer is.  whatever it takes. Brandi Irwin, 28, a foot model and photographer, spends tens of thousands on her hair.  She gets her more locks from stylist Kristina Barricelli and her team at Gemini 14 salon in Manhattan. Brandi’s custom hairdo involves 250,000 strands of hair extensions imported from India and colored in Italy. The extensions are put in strand-by-strand and the process takes nine hours.” “You work hard, you play hard,” Brandi says. “My hair is my biggest accessory.” She says she “can’t put a price” on how it makes her feel. Barricelli says the treatment lasts a few months, which is why the cost adds up.

Lauren Conrad Dishes on Getting Hair Extensions

Reality TV star Lauren Conrad recently confessed to having hair extensions. When asked about her famously long wavy hair, she replied, "these are all extensions." "I chopped my hair off to my shoulders. I thought I was doing a chic bob. It was so bad," says the chick novelist and designer.

To get Lauren Conrad inspired hair our Indian Straight hair extensions  preferably in lengths 18"-26" with some long layers in it to break it up a little. It’s always better when wearing your hair so long to have some kind of curl and shape in there to help it appear natural.

Tired of Your Short Hair Cut?

Sometimes you get a short haircut that you really like. Then after awhile, you start missing your longer hair and the styling options that came with it. No need to fret, our hair extensions can give you the long hair look you desire.  Since our hair extensions are made with ONLY 100% human hair they look totally natural, as if the hair grew right out of your own head.

We offer hair extensions in several colors from Jet black (#1) to Platinum blonde (#613), several lengths from 10" to 26", several types from machine weft to clip on hair extensions and many different textures from deep curly to silky straight.  We offer something for everyone no matter your hair length, color, texture or application method.

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but  I chopped my long hair to shoulder length a few years back. I loved the look for almost a year, then I decided to grow it out. Well, needless to say it seems like it took forever to grow. So I added hair extensions in my hair during the transitional phase, until my hair grew to the length I wanted (bra strap length).

We hear stories from customers all the time that want to buy hair extensions because they got a trendy hair cut (remember the bob) or worst, a bad haircut and don't want to wait months or often time years until their hair grows back. I recently saw a quote that read, "life is too short to wait for your hair to grow." Thank goodness for hair extensions!
Pictured above is reality TV star Kristin Cavallari. Just a couple years back she sported this short, layered, shaggy bob and now her hair is long. According to several reports, she added hair extensions for the length and too thicken her thin strands.

Hair Extensions Gone Wrong

What is wrong with this picture?
There was so many things wrong with the hair extensions pictured, on so many levels. For starters, there was absolutely no blending of the hair extensions with her natural hair. You can tell that besides the color not matching, the texture of the extensions she is wearing is completely different than her natural hair. It looks like synthetic hair. Human hair will frizz when the air has any moisture in it. Synthetic hair will stay straight as a board and make your natural hair look out of control. On top of that the hair extensions are uneven and were not professionally trimmed.

Our hair extensions are made with the finest 100% Remy Indian human hair extensions. No synthetic additives, just naturally beautiful hair. We only use the finest and most beautiful human hair, throughout the entire manufacturing process. Remy hair will last longer than any other hair. It is the ultimate hair for softness, durability, minimal shedding, and best of all, tangle free.

Indian Remy Curly Hair Extensions

If you're a curly haired girl who dreams of longer Rapunzel locks, you may consider our curly hair extensions. Instantly add a lovely mass of cascading curly ringlets with lots of body and bounce. Fairy tale tresses aren't too far out of reach.
Our natural curly hair extensions are 100% human hair, no synthetic additives, just naturally beautiful hair. We only use the finest and most beautiful human hair, throughout the entire manufacturing process. Indian Remy hair will last longer than any other hair on the market. The cuticle in Indian Remy hair is straight and flat and flowing in the same direction.

What does this mean for you?
  • Low maintenance- Only the finest quality Virgin Remy grade of human hair is used, so the hair is easy to maintain and care for. You don't have to slave in the mirror to get this hair just right, because it's naturally beautiful hair, just wash and go.
  • Versatile- Because the hair is 100% human hair you can dye it and style it with heat styling tools. So flat iron it straight today and wash and go for curls tomorrow.
  • Shine- Natural shine and luster is retained because of the cuticle direction.
  • Softness- Cuticles are aligned in the same direction, so the hair is soft to the touch.
  • Long lasting- Lasts longer than hair that does not have cuticle alignment. Only the finest quality Virgin Remy grade of human hair is used.
  • Durable- Only the finest quality Virgin Remy grade of human hair is used, so the hair withstands styling stress.
  • Minimal shedding- Special sewing secures the weft and prevents it from shedding excessively.
  • Tangle free- Cuticles in each strand of hair are aligned in the same direction, so the hair does not matt or tangle excessively.
Indian Remy curly hair extensions are available in lengths 10" to 26". You get what you pay for when purchasing our Indian Remy human hair extensions. Human hair extensions are the best option if you want the most natural appearance.

Top Five Reasons People Get Hair Extensions

1. Add instant length, volume or thickness to their hair. They have always wanted long hair or thicker hair and for whatever reason have never been able to grow their own hair out.
2. Cover up a really bad hair cut. So, you got a really short shag hair style and you absolutely hate it? Solution: Hair Extensions
3. Add bold or subtle highlights to your hair without chemical processing.
4. Get a new look for a special occasion (wedding, prom, special occasion).
5. Just for fun! Some people like to experiment with their hair styles. Hair extensions offer an instant new look without the commitment of a haircut or permanent color.

Hair Extensions for Men? Yes.

As the trend toward longer hair for men grows, think Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Owen Wilson you can expect to see more celebrities and a lot of regular guys turning to hair extensions. The only requirement is 3-4 inches of your own hair as a base. The trend in long hair for men is hair past the ears, and even past the shoulders, with long layers for fullness. And the fastest way to get there is with hair extensions.

When Bad Hair Extensions Happen to Good People

This is not a good blending Job on Kate Gosselins extensions (see picture on the left). Remember when applying pre-tipped hair extensions to stay within 4-6 inches of your own hair length for the most natural result. As you can see in the second picture, she got it right.
Naomi Campbell's hair extensions pictures above look great, but at her front hairline is another story. Adding too much extension hair to the natural hair will pull and stress the roots of the natural hair, resulting in a receding hairline. This excessive tension leads to breakage and/or hair loss.
Lindsay Lohan's hair extensions do not blend with her natural hair. This picture is a great example of why it is important to make sure your color match is right. Before ordering your hair, make sure to check out our online hair color chart or purchase a hair color ring for more accuracy.
This picture of Julie Benz is a great example of why it is important to make sure to leave enough hair out around the perimeter or edges of your natural hair. This will disguise the hair wefts and allow you to have more versatility with your hair styles. You can wear your hair up in a ponytail or bun or half up half down, or all down without worrying about your hair extensions being exposed. Also see our article on Hair Extension Exposure.

This picture of Oprah Winfrey is another is another great example of why it is important to make sure to leave enough hair out around the perimeter or edges of your natural hair. This will disguise the hair wefts and allow you to have more versatility with your hair styles. Also see our article on Hair Extension Exposure.

Hair Trend: The shaved head Trend

Let's go back chronologically to see who first started this 80's inspired hair trend. It was none other than R & B singer Cassie. When asked why she did it, she responded on Twitter "LOL B/C I WOKE UP AND FELT LIKE IT!!!”

Next up was former radio Disc jockey and MTV host, LA LA Vasquez. She shaved her head and put her own spin on it. By adding the lines it gave this hairstyle more oomph.

Keisha Cole chopped on the shaved half head craze and took this style to the next level. As you can tell from the picture, she added a couple red stars. Not that it needs it, but the red stars gave this hairstyle a bigger personality.

Rihanna decided to follow the recent half shaved head fad, but she took it a step further by shaving both sides! For Rhianna this wasn't much of a departure from her normal edgy short hairstyles. Cassie may have started the trend, but Rhianna pulled it off the best.

Last, but not least Spice girl Mel B showed off her punk rock half shaved head at the Brit Awards. The bedazzled stars added a not so interesting touch.

I must admit when I first saw pictures of Cassie's half shaved head I wasn't particularly fond of it, but it has grown on me. I love a good hair trend. The crazier the better! However, I’m a total coward and I’d rather look at the wild looks than sport it on myself. Kudos to the ladies above who dare to try out this wild style, but talk about commitment!

This reminded me of the time I chopped my long hair to shoulder length.
